CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man was killed after resisting arrest while Corpus Christi Police Department personnel tried serving a warrant Friday at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.
CCPD Chief Michael Markle said one detective and two uniformed officers went to the shelter -- located in the 900 block of Nueces Bay Blvd. -- to execute a felony warrant for continued sexual assault of a child against a 44-year-old man.
Markle said the man put up a fight and a struggle ensued over a handgun in his possession.
Officers tried to contain him with a stun gun, but it was ineffective and they were forced to fire a gun, he said. He said he believes only one shot was fired.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he died.
The personnel involved will be assigned administrative leave, per department policy. Their names have not been released, nor has the 44-year-old man's.
Markle said he did not know whether the man was staying at the shelter or not.
