PORT ARANSAS, Texas —
When people are casting their presidential primary vote this Tuesday, they'll be seeing a local man's name on the ballot.
Despite his current battle with cancer, Star Locke from Port Aransas has managed to get his name on the primary ballots in Texas and New Hampshire.
He stands so strongly in his beliefs that back in 2020, he called former president Trump out to a field of honor. Back in 2006, in attempts to help with the country's immigration issues, he also leased out 26 acres of land in Mexico with plans of using that land to house and give immigrants a place to work.
While the odds of him winning the democratic seat are slim, that doesn't stop him from believing that veterans should get a shot at becoming the commander in chief.
"It started down in the valley with me and my veteran buddies. We had decided, 'well, somebody has got to do something. Nobody is doing anything.' So, we thought, we'd get a bunch of military people together, a bunch of veterans, and explain our program to try and put America back on top," Locke said.
Nearly everyone in Star Locke's family has served in the military. They've served the country for years. In fact, Locke has relatives that fought alongside George Washington in Valley Forge.
He believes that those who have served in the military are best fit to solve America's problems.
While he's running for president, Locke says this isn't a job he would take on alone. He would form a group of vets and those he considers patriots that he would call Team America.
"Nationwide, we all have a lot of experience, a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge that you learn on the battlefield. We can solve a lot of problems if we were allowed to. That's what we want to do," he said.
Some people he'd like on that team include Liz Cheney, former chief of naval operations, Micheal Gilday and Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman.
Locke understands the reality of what the election outcome will be. Believing that the two main parties are controlled by Biden and Trump, he says he'll continue to stand by what he believes and wishes the best for his country.
“The reality is the election is closed down right now. Nobody else can get in, but it could open. Who knows? My momma always said to just keep praying," he said.
