Direction to Success: Port of Corpus Christi's internship program gives students competitive edge

The Port of CC's Navig8 Internship Program provides participants with the opportunity to further their education and career goals in a professional setting.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Attention students! Yes---YOU!

Internships are available for those pursuing careers in business development, communications, engineering and more.

Valeria Barbosa, a human resources assistant at the Port of Corpus Christi joined us on First Edition to talk about how the NAVIG8 Internship Program gives students an advantage in the job market later down the road.

Interns are given the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of professional fields where they will connect valuable mentors, guides and resources that set them up on a strong path to enter the professional world.

Barbosa said that a new initiative requiring students to present a Student Internship Program Portfolio of their time at the NAVIG8 program gives interns a particular edge when they go on to submit application materials for future jobs-- in front of the Port CEO, no less.

The overview requires students to present insights they learned from mentors, key milestones they achieved and discuss the challenges they might have faced in the program and how they overcame them.

Their portfolios and presentations offer prospective employers a chance to gain unique insight into their strengths as job candidates.
