Positive case of West Nile virus in Nueces County

The exact location where the virus was contracted has not been released yet.
You can prevent swarms of mosquitoes near your home by keeping your grass cut and making sure there is no ponding/standing water.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District has identified a positive human case of West Nile virus infection.

The Vector Control Disease Response Plan will start spraying pesticides used to kill adult mosquitos.

This spraying will go on through the weekend within a one-mile radius of where that person was identified.

The exact location where the virus was contracted has not been released.

Health experts say a wet, humid summer and mild fall has led to more mosquitoes breeding in the Coastal Bend.

Remember to protect yourself by wearing long sleeves and pants when outside during dusk and dawn, use repellant containing DEET, and empty any standing water around your home to fight back.
