CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Young adults in the local foster care system are actively preparing for adulthood--
thanks to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services PAL program geared to helping them become healthy, independent adults.
The Preparation for Adult Living or ‘PAL’ program ensures children 'aging out' of foster care are prepared for adulthood once they turn 18.
PAL Specialist Vickie Shular said this is their third year putting this event on and its made possible through their partnership with Workforce Solutions.
One of the attendees at Thursday’s seminar, Rebecca Deleon, said the resources and support this program offers are a relief from all the other stressors and trauma many foster children deal with.
"There's like a lot of things you don't have to stress about, like that other people are going to be stressing about, and I mean it's great because you know you've gone through all this trauma and it's like a relief at the end," Deleon said.
She said she's grateful for the program and wants other kids in similar situations to know they're not alone and that there are resources available to them.
