CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Robstown Police Department says they are working on a training improvement for police that they say could benefit everyone in the court system.
Robstown PD is working to get their younger officers trained up so they can testify in court effectively.
Sergeant Arturo Gonzalez said many cases can hinge on police testimony, which at times, is thrown out if it isn't reported correctly, or if cross-examination doesn't go smoothly.
"Testimony is a big part of it. So, if the officer testifies to the truth and to what he wrote down in his report - that's what you should go by. And that's what we plan to do here. Educate them and get them ready for when they go to court."
Sergeant Gonzalez added that the training is necessary for officers ahead of their first trial appearance.
