Spectrum outages impact organizations across the Coastal Bend

The Coastal Bend Blood Center and R.E.A.L Transportation were just a few organizations left improvising after the outage on Tuesday.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A few Coastal Bend agencies were without internet or cell service through Spectrum, due to issues caused by Hurricane Beryl.

Coastal Bend Blood Center spokesperson Ashley Ramirez said that not having internet service makes it harder to give the gift of life, especially when the blood bank is in need of donations.

"We basically have no communication with the outside world," she said.

Ramirez said the blood center was no exception to the statewide outage.

"We're not able to make calls to set appointments, therapeutic appointments et cetera," she said.

And the outage wasn't just in Corpus Christi. R.E.AL. Transportation based in Alice also saw disruptions to their phone lines. The company provides critical transportation for rural residents to various appointments.

Pam Garza with R.E.A.L. Transportation said that while it was business as usual, they did have to adjust to the situation.

"We were talking to them through our AT&T phones, which were still able to work and we were running off of hot spots," Garza said.

A spokesperson from Spectrum provided the following statement that reads:

“We are aware of the outage currently affecting customers in parts of Texas. The outage is due to a third-party infrastructure issue caused by the impact of Hurricane Beryl. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working with the third party to resolve this as quickly as possible. Thank you."
