CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is back with their 91st Easter Bake Sale,
Organizers Dr. Bill Chriss and Joann Talarantas brought along a few sweet treats when they joined us on First Edition Wednesday morning.
They told us the fundraiser first began in 1933 when women from the Greek community began baking traditional sweets to raise money for a church building. Chriss said it took the women 17 years of bake sales to make enough money to start building the church.
The bake sale will take place March 28-29 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The church takes advance orders on their website.
Organizers say their 91st annual bake sale will help them expand their building fund.
You can pick up your orders at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where guests will be able to pick up their orders and even stick around to sip on coffee and listen to Greek music.
The ladies of St. Nicholas still get together now as a community -every other day according to Talarantas- to bake the treats you can learn more about here.
