CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The San Patricio and Aransas Counties A&H Show event, the "Extra Special Show" celebrated its 12th year Wednesday.
The event led by San Patricio 4-H ambassadors allows children with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate by showing lambs or goats with guidance from their ambassadors.
The Extra Special Show was created in 2012 by a Sinton High School graduate who wanted to give students with disabilities a chance to shine in the show ring and make long-lasting memories!
Participants even received trophies from the queen at the end of the show.
San Patricio County ambassador, Cotton West, said the event—which hosted a record 450 participants this year—has had a major impact on him every year since he first joined four years ago.
"This has been a life-changing deal for me, getting out, meeting kids, teaching them about the 4-H and what they can do, besides just stay in school," West said. "You want them to get out, learn different stuff, and do more."
