CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Each year the chemistry department at Texas A&M-Kingsville hosts an annual lecture shedding light on various topics, while honoring a distinguished professor.
Thursday year marked the 43rd annual 'Garland Lecture' that recognizes Fred McKee Garland for his contributions in chemistry.
The title of this year's lecture was 'Global vaccines for neglected diseases: The science versus the anti-science.'
Dean and professor at Baylor University Dr. Peter Hotez led the lecture and hopes to be back in years to come.
"I'm hoping this will be the first of many visits because we're partners in this collaboration to look at the emergence of these tropical infections here in south Texas," Hotez said
He added that a new generation of vaccines are also in development.
