Sen. Ted Cruz brings campaign to Coastal Bend

Incumbent Ted Cruz is running against Congressman Colin Allred.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — U.S. Senator Ted Cruz made two stops in Corpus Christi as part of his campaign trail on Tuesday.

First, Cruz visited the Corpus Christi Marina off Peoples Street where he met with fishermen, members of the U.S. Coast Guard and representatives with Texas Parks and Wildlife to discuss challenges with illegal poaching.

Then, residents headed over to S&J Bakery in Annaville to meet with the senator.

3NEWS caught up with Cruz to get his thoughts on the Coastal Bend's ongoing fight for freshwater sources.

"Mexico is flagrantly violating that treaty obligation," he said. "I forced a vote on the senate floor to call on Mexico to beat its treaty obligations and we got a bipartisan majority of senators that voted in favor of my provision. That has enabled me then to pick up the phone and call the water commissioner and lean in and say Mexico needs to provide the water that it owes to South Texas."

He added that he drafted legislation with fellow senator John Cornyn to enforce penalties on Mexico if it does not abide by treaty obligations.

Cruz is running against Congressman Colin Allred, who is currently in El Paso with his campaign.
