CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Today is Hunger Action Day –and you can battle food insecurity in South Texas.
Micaela Stewart with the Coastal Bend Food Bank joined First Edition to talk about why you should wear the color orange to show your support and the need behind the initiative.
The organization is set to host their SNAP application marathon on Tuesday, and they encourage those who have been denied in the past to attend.
The Coastal Bend Food Bank celebrates Hunger Action Day and Hunger Action Month each September in conjunction with Feeding America.
"We want to empower our community to take action. Whether it's donating, advocating or volunteering here in our community to help give back to help fight hunger."
The Coastal Bend Food Bank distributed more than 13 million pounds of food to those in need in the last fiscal year.
This Hunger Action Month, they want you to help them spread the word about their services, consider making a financial donation of volunteering with their teams.
For every $1 donated, four meals are served to people experiencing hunger and food insecurity in our community.
