CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Today, a new sensory room was unveiled at the La Retama Central Library that was designed specifically for children with special needs.
It is the first of its kind in all of South Texas.
The room is free for families to use and offers a one-of-a-kind experience for children in need of stimulation or a calming place to relieve feelings of being overwhelmed.
Organizers are thrilled to offer an inclusive space that facilitates learning while providing comfort.
"We learn in many different ways," Director of Corpus Christi Libraries," Laura Garcia said. "And then some of the children that have sensory processing needs are not able to attend what others take for granted like family-oriented programs because it can get overwhelmed with too much stimulation. So, this room is perfect for them to come in and relax or if the children needs some stimulation also to get stimulated."
Garcia says the room will offer a variety of features that are all aimed at calming children down and stimulating their senses.
