CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It only takes a quick drive along SPID to be reminded of what was once Sunrise Mall.
The mall has been under the wrecking ball for several months now. It officially closed back in 2019 and is under new ownership.
Many remember it as one of the shooting locations in the movie the "Legend of Billie Jean."
The big question right now is what's gonna happen with the property?
3NEWS reached out to the assistant city manager to get an update.
"There are plans in works on proposed redevelopment of that area and one thing to remember about Sunrise Mall and any mall, you've got multiple property owners in there, because a lot of those anchors were owned by those different companies and so redevelopment of a mall area or shopping center area is much more complicated," said assistant city manager Heather Hurlbert.
The city is also talking to the new owners about the possible use of economic development funds.
