CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station held a change of command ceremony Friday, sending off retiring Captain Hans C. Govertson and welcoming new captain, Charlie Wilson!
Emotions took soared as Captain Govertsen announced his final goodbyes and great wishes to Captain Wilson.
Returning back home after time in Jacksonville, Florida, Wilson said he couldn't be more excited to be back where it all started!
"I graduated out of Port Aransas high school, and left from this airport 25 years ago to start my Coast Guard career," he said. "So, to be able to comeback and to lead this unit 25 years later, with family here, I can't even put it into words how special it is to me."
Wilson said his mentors inspired him to take this new position and he hopes to giveback and lead the community that raised him.
