CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In October 2023, over 2,100 residents responded to Visit Corpus Christi's an online survey that asked how they feel about tourism in Corpus Christi and about the city in general, compared with how they felt in 2021.
Those results have now been released.
When it comes to tourism, people who live in Corpus Christi believe it has more positive benefits than negative impacts. But the big idea to come out of the Resident Sentiment Survey is that community pride is growing.
Dr. Mike Imburgio is the Director of Data Science for Visit Corpus Christi.
“There was support for tourism and, my favorite part, is that there was a growth in community pride and people realizing the city is moving in the right direction and being proud of that and willing to share that,” Imburgio said.
And sharing it is the key.
President and CEO of Visit Corpus Christi Brett Oetting at Visit Corpus Christi said they want to encourage the community to keep going to our local attractions and then telling others about their experiences.
“We need people in Corpus Christi to speak positively about their experiences in Corpus Christi, and we need them to tell those stories on their social media accounts as well, because they have friends and family and business partners that don't live here and that see those types of social media posts," Oetting said.
Speaking of social media, back at the beginning of the year 3NEWS posted a story on Facebook asking what restaurants you would like to see here.
The folks at Visit Corpus Christi were paying attention.
“I spent a lot of time going through the opinions of the people who commented on the Facebook post,” Imburgio said. “There were over 1,000 comments that I sorted through to put together a survey and formalize all of those opinions.”
The result is that they are about to make available another survey with some of the most often mentioned restaurants. Once the top choices are ranked, they will either look for someone locally to build that kind of establishment or start contacting those restaurants to try to draw them here.
