CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Volunteers came together Thursday, to call over 1,000 parents and guardians of CCISD students who have not shown up for school. Their hope is to try to get them back to the classroom.
'Keeping Every Youth in School,' referred to as Operation K.E.Y.S., operates on the belief that every student has a story for why they don't show up. That's why volunteers say it's their mission to find out what that story is and do what they can to help each student get the education they deserve.
"To see what it is their needing, that we can get them enrolled," CCISD Attendance, Dropout and Leaver Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Noyola said. "Is it supplies, is it clothing, is it some other resource? Sometimes we find out they moved out of state, or they have decided to do some other different types of programs, and so we try to get them connected again with CCISD."
Operation K.E.Y.S. volunteers spent four hours of the day making calls to families. In a few weeks, they'll take the help to their doorstep for those who didn't answer.
