CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A mosquito trapped on Bay Breeze Drive near the new Target in Portland on Tuesday tested positive for West Nile virus, according to City of Portland officials.
Officials said there are currently no reported human cases of West Nile virus in Portland.
The city is now under a 'Risk Level 3 Public Health Warning' as it's called for in its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan.
Crews will be spraying the area for two consecutive days beginning Saturday, heavily treating the area with larvicide, and will continue trapping and testing mosquitoes.
Infected individuals may experience fever, headache, body aches ,swollen lymph nodes and occasionally a skin rash on the body.
