YMCA honors Alzheimer's patients with 'Memories Matter' Purple Sock Hop this Saturday

The YMCA will be spinning the best tunes from the 50's 60's 70's for the event benefitting the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Alzheimer's Association and YMCA are teaming up to invite you to relive the old memories and make new ones at the Memories Matter Purple Sock Hop on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 6-9 p.m.

Melissa Ford is an organizer with the event. She joined us on First Edition to remind the community to dress to impress and enjoy a night with friends and family while supporting a good cause. From poodle skirts to leather jackets, the YMCA will be spinning the best tunes from the 50's 60's 70's for the event benefitting the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Ford has a personal connection to the cause, as her father struggles with Parkinson's and her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She wants families who struggle with the disease to be aware of resources that can help. The Alzheimer's Association will be on site raising awareness for their cause and building their team for the November Walk to End Alzheimer's.

If you or a loved one have a question about Alzheimer's care or treatment, you can call or text their helpline at any time of the day or night at 800-272- 3900.
