CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Solomon Ortiz Jr. defeated Roland Barrera on Tuesday night in the Democratic primary for the District 34 State Representative seat.
The former state legislator will now take on Denise Villalobos in the Nov. 5 general election.
Ortiz is Texas A&M University alum who works at Ortiz Holdings LLC as Director of Governmental Affairs, and has served as Executive Director of MAP (Minority Advancement Project) of Texas.
Ortiz Jr. served as Texas State Representative of District 33 (now District 34) from 2006-11.
The general election winner succeeds Abel Herrero in serving a constituency which includes Nueces and parts of San Patricio counties.
