ALICE, Texas — The Alice Independent School District Board of Trustees were presented multiple options for a new Alice Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Alice ISD Superintendent Dr. Anysia Trevino and others from the community were there to hear the three different concepts.
Concept one would be at the current stadium location and features two different field options. In that case, the old stadium would be demolished and rebuilt. PBK Sports estimates the cost would be $39 million and construction would take 12 to 16 months.
Alice ISD Athletic Director J.R. Castellano said there is a plan if the district decides to go through with building a new stadium.
"Football season's going to continue to go on, whether we build a new stadium or not," Castellano said. "So, you have to plan ahead of that and be prepared for that. So, we plan on, you know, either playing 10 away games or trying to find a neutral site to where we could play our home games."
Concept two would be at a different location near Alice International Airport. That is estimated to cost $53 million.
Concept three would be on a different side of the school district and is estimated to cost between $39 to $40 million.
Castellano said each proposed stadium has pros and cons, but it is all about providing a safe facility for this generation and future ones.
"You don't want to see all the memories of Memorial Stadium go away, but at the same time, you want to provide safe and sound facilities," Castellano said. "Not only for our kids today and not only for football, but for our soccer programs, our track programs, our band. Everybody that utilizes our stadium."
He said he could see the Board of Trustees making a decision about whether they want to pick one of the options soon.
If the community has any questions about the process to build a new stadium, he asked that they call the Alice ISD administration office.
The next step is Alice ISD gathering more information about the stadium options, according to Castellano. That is mostly related to costs and another workshop should happen soon.
