CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 17-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning for making online threats against a Coastal Bend high school, the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office told to 3NEWS.
Sheriff Oscar Rivera of San Patricio County said the male student was apprehended from his home by deputies before school even began. A weapon was found at the house.
A student who saw the online threats reported it to the principal, who then alerted law enforcement.
Rivera said he is tired of seeing this trend of online threats being made at different school districts, both nationally and at home.
"It's a growing problem in our nation, and we are not going to put up with it," said the San Patricio County sheriff.
"Kids have a right to enjoy the freedom to go to school without being afraid."
The teen was taken into custody at the San Patricio County Jail.
