CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

The driver that caused a five-vehicle crash on Kostoryz Road Friday night has been arrested for intoxication assault.

The driver of the pickup, 40-year-old Joshua Smith, displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested for intoxication assault with a vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. After he was medically cleared, he was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

On Friday at 10:38pm, CCPD was dispatched to the 5000 block of Kostoryz Road in response to the major traffic collision with injuries.

Witnesses told officers that a silver Ford pickup was traveling northbound on the 5000 block of Kostoryz, ran two red lights and struck a black car that was driving westbound through the intersection with a green light on South Padre Island Drive.

The collision caused the pickup to roll and crash into two additional vehicles that were sitting at the red light, facing southbound. During the rollover, the pickup threw debris onto an additional vehicle, causing damage to that vehicle.

Medics transported the 39-year-old female driver of the black car to a local hospital with serious injuries. The four occupants of the two passenger cars that were struck were also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The occupant of the fifth vehicle was uninjured.
