Barbecue fundraiser to help Alani Castro's family with funeral expenses

The four-month-old was found unresponsive while in her father's care Friday evening.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A barbecue benefit will be held on Saturday to help Alani Castro's family with funeral costs and expenses after the four-month-old's tragic death.

The fundraiser will begin at noon at Los Laguneros bar on Morgan Avenue.

Local resident Pete Treviño, who is known for helping families in their time of need, is helping organize this effort to lay the baby to rest.

Alani was found unresponsive while in her father's care Friday evening. The infant was taken to a local hospital by CCFD medics where she was pronounced dead.

In a probable cause statement obtained by 3NEWS, CCPD officers say the baby's father, Juan Castro, did not take precautions to ensure the baby would not become sick in bed after feeding her formula.

Castro has been arrested and charged with causing serious bodily injury and death to his daughter. He is being held without bond.
