CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's out with the old and in with the new for the Corpus Christi Police Department as they officially opened up the doors to the new police training academy on Thursday.
The nine-acre plot is located at the Del Mar Oso Creek Campus on Yorktown Boulevard.
The new $23.5 million academy offers a state-of-the-art facility to support the department's growing force.
It features crime scene simulation rooms, smart classrooms, a gym, locker rooms, and a 400-meter synthetic track.
Cadet with the 84th Police Academy, Melinda Chap, shared what it means to be one of the first cadets training at the new academy.
"The feelings are there, the emotions are high, just because our training is top notch," Chap said. "So, to experience it in a bigger facility it's amazing."
