CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department continued their crack down of street racing in the city's downtown area this weekend.
The department released updated numbers, reporting that Night Time Traffic Unit officers conducted 95 traffic stops, issued 46 traffic citations and impounded 16 vehicles and motorcycles on Saturday and Sunday.
CCPD said they made a total of 18 arrests. Of those, eight were in reference to reckless driving and three were for Racing. Police also seized three firearms.
When 3NEWS reached out to authorities ahead of the weekend, officers said they were aware of a street racing event flyer circulating on social media. Officials told us their message was clear:
"The police department will not tolerate this behavior. We will be amping up our patrols and will have a zero tolerance for reckless driving and racing. The safety of the public is our number priority. You will go to jail and vehicle will be impounded."
