CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Flags were lowered to half-staff outside the Corpus Christi Police Department to honor officer Kyle Hicks, who died of his injuries Wednesday evening.
"We mourn the loss of a great husband, father, brother, son, friend and co-worker," a Facebook post on the department's page states.
Hicks, who had been with the department for two years, was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance at the Summer House Apartments at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The man who shot and ultimately killed Hicks was identified Tuesday as 26-year-old Colton Foster. He was shot and killed at the scene by officers responding with Hicks.
He leaves behind a wife and four children.
The department asks for privacy for his family and states in the post that in his last act of service, Hicks' organs will be donated.
Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo released a statement Wednesday evening:
This evening, the entire City of Corpus Christi is grieving the loss of a brave public servant, Officer Kyle Hicks who lost his life protecting our community. Officer Hicks will forever be remembered as a hero to the people of Corpus Christi for his bravery in the line of duty.
As Mayor, I am asking our community to please join me and my family in prayer for his family and fellow police officers. The death of Officer is a stark reminder of the life-and-death risks law enforcement officers face every day. We will forever remember Officer Hicks and the City of Corpus Christi will continue to support our courageous police officers in protecting our city. May God bless and keep Officer Kyle Hicks.
