CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The lack of rain around the watershed is about to send us into Stage 3 drought restrictions, Corpus Christi Water told 3NEWS on Monday.
CCW CEO Drew Molly said that move could be made as Corpus Christi enters the Thanksgiving holiday.
"We basically are seeing the fact they we're likely going to be below 20 percent sometime next week,” he said. “I mean, it looks like next week."
There is no significant rain in the forecast in the next 5-7 days, said 3NEWS Chief Meteorologist Alan Holt.
City officials had warned Stage 3 could be implemented in August, however, Tropical Storm Alberto and Hurricane Beryl dropped enough rain in the watershed to fend off the Critical Water Shortage Conditions.
Molly said it's likely the city would wait a number of days to ensure that the level stays under 20 percent before enacting Stage 3 restrictions, which include charging residential customers surcharges for using more water than has been allocated to that address.
