CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A call to action tonight, to help our teens recognize and find a balance when it comes to "screen" time!
A group called Champions for Childhood has been speaking to school boards, families and district communities across the Coastal Bend.
The group, a grassroots organization inspired by a book called the 'Anxious Generation' by Jonathan Haidt.
And Tuesday night, they took their mission to the Del Mar College Oso Creek campus to talk with parents, teachers, students and local leaders as a way to help improve the mental health of children and teens, by adopting policy regarding no smart phones in school and encouraging more '"free play".
"It really needs to come from boards but how do boards get information and get encouraged to pass these policies, we're hoping is through people just like us and members of this community to try and give testimonials and research of why it's important to not have smart phones in schools," said one of the founding members of Champions for Childhood Porter DeVries.
State representative Todd Hunter was in attendance Monday night as one of the featured speakers.
DeVries said how the book does not mention that technology is bad but that there should be safe guards around technology when it comes to children.
