CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Tuesday morning, hundreds gathered at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown to support loved ones of Christopher Ruiz and celebrate the 19-year-old's life.
Ruiz drowned in Lake Corpus Christi on June 9.
In his obituary Christopher's family says he was a bright and ambitious young man who graduated with honors from Robstown Early High School last year. He was pursuing a degree in welding at Del Mar College and was just two weeks away from his 20th birthday.
His family told 3NEWS that the community should watch out for scammers going around with fake GoFundMe accounts asking for donations.
The family says if you see an account asking for money to report it.
They are not currently seeking any donations.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
