CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank is teaming up with the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi for the 15th year to prepare 1,000 food boxes for families to enjoy during the holiday season.
Community members helped the organizations prepare the boxes Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the food bank's location on Bear Lane.
Executive Director Bea Hanson said the new facility was built with this kind of volunteering effort in mind.
"This is exactly what we had in mind when we designed this facility to have enough room to have large groups of people where we can prepare thousands of boxes for a distribution," Hanson said. "That was very difficult in the old facility."
The food boxes will be distributed later this holiday season to ensure that everyone who wants one has a meal on their table.
