CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank held a special food distribution Tuesday morning thanks to a $110,000 donation from Thomas J. Henry.
That gift is just a fraction of the $875,000 that Henry donated to food banks in cities across the state as part of his new Feast of Texas initiative. The donation to the Coastal Bend Food Bank is enough to supply 440,00 meals to families in need this holiday season.
Registration for the distribution didn't start until 6 a.m. Tuesday, but the Food Bank tells 3NEWS that people were lined up as early as 8 p.m. Monday night.
The food distribution line started at the Food Bank on Bear Lane and went as far out as the frontage road near Old Brownsville Road.
While the Food Bank plans to give out 1,000 holiday food boxes, including a turkey, on Tuesday, they have enough supplies to keep distributing those boxes until Friday. Dec. 20.
