CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — New details are coming to light Friday morning as DPS troopers share what led to the death of two people in an accident on SH 359 on Friday morning.
Sgt. Rob Mallory tells 3NEWS that a father and son stopped to assist a 22-year-old woman who was driving a Kia Forte when she hit a garbage truck in the northbound lane of the highway heading to Skidmore.
The son got out to help the female driver. As they were moving the car across the roadway, the son and driver were hit by a truck and killed.
Sgt. Mallory said the rural highway was dark at the time of the early morning accident.
DPS is still working the fatal crash, which occurred around 5 a.m. in Bee County.

Investigators are saying that am initial crash between a Kia Forte and a garbage truck disabled the Kia in the roadway.
Passing drivers stopped to assist the Kia. As they were moving the car across the roadway, the assisting motorist and driver were hit by a truck traveling towards Tynan and killed.
The roadway is expected to be shut down for two to three more hours while DPS continues to investigate the crash.
Fog did not play a role in the accident. The agency said the rural roadway was dark and not well-lit.
