CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Baseball Umpire Association is looking to recruit umpires ahead of another South Texas baseball season.
President Larry Amaya and Signing Secretary Art Green spoke with 3NEWS ahead of Sunday's recruitment event at Whataburger Field and say they are looking for males and females who are hardworking and willing to learn.
Right now, there are about 53 umpires ready to cover baseball games across the Coastal Bend. Green says that in order to be comfortable, he'd like to get that number up to 73.
The Corpus Christi Baseball Umpire Association is a part of the Texas Association of Sports Officials, or TASO. The state-run organization provides resources and training for high school for Texas high school sports.
