Toddler's father supports bond reduction for Hilda Adame in his daughter's hot-car death

Judge grants lower bond in the death of 22-month-old Harley Adame, who died outside Tom Browne Middle School in August.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Edward Aguilar was in court Tuesday supporting Hilda Adame's request for a bond reduction.

Aguilar is the father of 22-month-old Harley Adame, the toddler who died after her mother Hilda Adame said she she forgot to drop her off at day care and left her in a hot car for several hours in Corpus Christi on Aug. 20.

Hilda Adame and her attorney Angelica Hernandez asked 28th District Court Judge Nanette Hasette to reduce Adame's bond and allow her to rejoin her family and other children.

That request was granted Tuesday afternoon.

3NEWS learned she bonded out on Wednesday, according to Nueces County Jail.

Aguilar said he has known Hilda Adame for more than 10 years and did not object to the lowering of the bond amount to a combined $50,000.

Aguilar told the courtroom that Adame has three other children -- ages 16, 12 and 5 -- who typically stay with her. He and their grandparents are caring for them now that she is in custody.

Prosecutors said they did not object to Adame residing with the children, but will leave the charges as they are. They also did not object to lowering the bond to $50,000.

Adame's mother, Maria Martinez, also addressed the courtroom Tuesday morning. She said she and her husband are caring for the three girls with Aguilar's help.

They took the girls to be interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center and said law enforcement did not express any concerns about the older children's wellbeing.

Martinez said she plans to pawn the title to her vehicle and scrape together any money Hilda has in the bank to afford to pay the bond, saying any reduction would help.

When Adame took the stand to speak on her own behalf, she told the judge she has no intentions of leaving the city if released, and that she has a place to stay if she makes bond.

Adame has been in protective custody and on suicide watch while in jail but said she will cooperate with any bond conditions are imposed while out on bond.

Funeral arrangements for Harley Adame are planned for this weekend, and they would like for her to attend the services.
