CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While city of Corpus Christi brush collection is being reduced to twice a year, street sweeping will be ramping up.
According to city officials, lawn clippings, branches and other items that frequently make their way onto the streets eventually enter the gutters and drains.
For residential properties street sweeping usually comes around twice a year; that number will now be going up to three or four times beginning next year.
For more-traveled roadways sweeping will jump from six to eight times annually.
Director of Public Works Ernie De La Garza said some streets will be swept even more due to higher volume.
"We hold higher priority for streets like Everhart, Staples, the ones that carry the most volume of traffic," he said. "Those we try to clean more often, Ocean Drive is one, then streets on The Island as well."
De La Garza said street sweeping is expected to increase even more in the years ahead thanks to City's past budget approval.
