CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Editor's note: A Corpus Christi Police Department officer told 3NEWS on Monday that the second swimmer pulled from the water Sunday had died, however the department's public information office said Monday afternoon it could not confirm that information.
8:30 AM Monday:
Police are investigating the discovery a body found on shore at Gulf Beach Road on Mustang Island early Monday morning. They told 3NEWS the body belonged to the missing third swimmer from Sunday afternoon's beach-rescue effort in the area.
One of the swimmers taken to the hospital over the weekend has also died after being found unresponsive by rescuers.
First responders from the Corpus Christi Police Department, state Park Police and the Corpus Christi Fire Department are on scene investigating.
Sunday afternoon:
Nueces County Emergency Services District No. 2 posted a notice of missing people near Beach Marker 195, which is next to Mustang Island State Park.
Nueces County ESD2 said that two people were pulled from the water and taken to the hospital, one stable and one unresponsive. The third person is still missing.
The Corpus Christi Fire Department, ESD2, the U.S. Coast Guard and Beach Rescue have responded to the emergency in the area of Beach Marker 195. Officials are telling people to avoid the area.
