The city ranks second for the most affordable options for these lifestyles, but, unfortunately, there's a catch.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With Mexican restaurants around every corner and a deep pride for Texas barbecue, you may be surprised to find out that Corpus Christi is in the top 40 for largest US cities that support vegan and vegetarian lifestyles.

According to WalletHub's list of the 100 "Best Cities for Vegans & Vegetarians," Corpus Christi ranks number 37. That's above Fresno, California (39), Honolulu (46) and Boston (71).

The study scored each city using three categories: diversity, accessibility and quality of the options; affordability; and vegetarian-specific options.

Neither vegetarians nor vegans eat meat and usually have no desire for a bite of your barbacoa taco, ribeye steak and Whataburger No. 1 with cheese.

While some vegetarians will eat and cook with eggs and dairy, vegans do not.

Some go as far as to not use any products that may have required an animal to make the product like leather, some cosmetics, and even some household products.

Not only is this a challenging lifestyle to maintain, it can be very expensive.

Corpus Christi, however ranks second as the most affordable city for vegan and vegetarian options.

This win comes with a loss, as we received a pretty low score in the diversity, accessibility and quality rank, with 93 out of 100.

Affordability and accessibility seemed like a give-and-take in most cases. For example, while San Francisco was the least affordable, they were ranked first for accessibility.

What do you say? Do you think you'll incorporate some meatless dishes into your menu this week?
