CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A big help today for "coastal colonias" as Texas A&M University Corpus Christi was granted a large sum of money to fund their project called '"Quenching Thirst: Water Equity in Coastal Colonias".
This morning the EPA-- the Environmental Protection Agency--granted them $2.5 million dollars to help continue their mission.
An effort that helps residents who live in the colonias have 'clean, safe and running water'.
Non-profits, and commissioners wanting to apply for funds will have help throughout the process.
We spoke with county commissioner Pct. 1 Robert Hernandez who said this help is crucial in the colonias.
"These are people that need the help, water is one of the primary things they need, to have running water in their homes, they use to drink, cook, bake, wash. Water is a necessity they need, we are trying to help them get it there.
We need money and the help of these organizations like the EPA."
Once Texas A&M has dispersed the money to those approved, they'll continue to follow along with making sure their plans for clean running water is achieved.
