CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Monday, Brooks County Judge Eric Ramos told 3NEWS that he applied for a $20 million climate change grant through the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Ramos said the grant could help to pay to improve drainage and build a community storm shelter.
The county judge is crossing his fingers that he'll get the grant saying without the money the county would have a hard time affording to do much of anything.
"We were just identified as the poorest county in the state of Texas this year, and our valuations went down so it squeezes an even tighter budget," Ramos said.
Other big ticket items he's looking at using the grant dollars on is a new show barn and park.
