CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Flour Bluff Independent School District announced Friday that its Board of Directors approved the purchase for 15.9 acres of additional land bordering the north end of their wetland pond outdoor classroom.
The district said the purchase will expand their 52-acre preserve while ensuring its protection for future generations of Hornet students, for whom the wetlands have served as an educational opportunity to those who have pursued careers in Marine Science and found a lifelong love for the outdoors.
The original land was donated by Dorothy Arnold, who served Flour Bluff ISD with Superintendent E.J. Wranosky.
"This acquisition is a significant win for our community, as it safeguards our wetlands while continuing to inspire and educate our students in unique ways," said the district in a Facebook post.
"By expanding this preserve, we are also reinforcing our commitment to building strong, lasting partnerships with academic institutions like Texas A&M Corpus Christi, ensuring that our students have access to top-tier educational resources and opportunities that will benefit them well into the future."
The district said they hope to secure grant opportunities through organizations like the Texas General Land Office, Coastal Management Program and the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act, that will help minimize of the purchase the financial burden on the district.
