CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For five years now Foster Angels of South Texas has made it a goal to help kids in foster care go to school in style just like any other classmate.
Local businesses, community partners and Shoe Carnival joined the nonprofit to collect 500 new pairs of sneakers for students!
Child Protective Services also teamed up with Foster Angels of South Texas to make sure the shoes were a perfect match for each of the kids and their personal taste.
"We're just here to make it a little better for kids in foster care," program manager Heather Tijerina said. "First day of school can be one of two things: it can be exciting and it can be very scary. We want to help when we can and make that day as fun as possible."
The mission doesn't stop there, Tijerina said the nonprofit helps fulfill the children's needs throughout the school year whether that's providing instruments if students decide to join their school band, sporting equipment or new clothes.
