Fundraiser held to honor late firefighter Mark Solis

Win the Day is a special fundraiser which was created by Solis right before he passed, all the money raised goes towards their outreach relief program.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The community continues to honor and remember Corpus Christi firefighter Mark Solis who passed from colon cancer in June.

Win the Day is a special fundraiser which was created by Solis right before he passed, along with the help of Pete Trevino who is well known in the Coastal Bend for helping give back to those in need.

All the money raised from Saturday's barbecue benefit will help their outreach relief program that was created to help provide food, clothes and more to those in our community that have lost their homes and belongings due to a house fire.

"My dad was incredibly loved and it's really shown, people show up when we need them the most and that's one thing we love about Corpus is we all have each other's back. And we're glad that this has come to life and we're able to further my dads wish of giving back to our community," said Mark's daughter Lauren Solis.

This annual event has become a collaborative effort and was put together by everyone who donated their time.

Mark's brother Jesse Solis shared more about how the event help keep his brothers memory alive.

"It's really a community effort and it was effortless to put together with all the help that we actually saw and everything came into fruition and we're going to continue to do this in his honor," said Jesse Solis.

Mark Solis served the Coastal Bend for more than 20 years, working at multiple fire stations.

This event will continue to increase community awareness about the many efforts that firefighters make every day.
