CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of a 65-year-old man as he washed his car in his Kingsville driveway in 2020 and engaging in organized crime during a court date Aug. 2.

Raul Geraldo Garcia, who was 19 years old at the time, was the leader of a criminal street gang, states Kleberg County District Attorney John Hubert in a news release.

Texts collected and used in evidence show he ordered Tristen Silguero and another person to break into vehicles, among other crimes, in order to earn money and get weapons for the gang.

Garcia was at a local hotel as Silguero, who was 17 years old at the time, and another person tried to rob Jacinto Obregon in his driveway and fatally stabbed him.

Silguero accepted a plea deal in January to avoid going to trial on capital murder charges. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his part in the fatal stabbing.

Hubert did not name the third defendant, but states that they remain charged with murder.
