CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Wednesday, a relic belonging to the founder of the Catholic fraternal organization the Knights of Columbus, the Blessed Michael McGivney, made a stop to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church as part of a five-day pilgrimage through five Texas dioceses.
Parishioners and South Texans gathered to see the relic, which happens to be a bone fragment from McGivney's body.
At a time of anti-Catholic sentiment, McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 to provide spiritual support to men and offer financial resources for families.
Many have attributed him to answered prayers, from everyday favors to remarkable medical recoveries.
The church hosted a visitation followed by a mass.
The Rev. Mark Salas from the Diocese of El Paso told 3NEWS that many who witness the relic find the experience motivating, humbling and inspiring, making it an important opportunity for our community to take part in.
"People can come venerate, touch the relic, pray with the relic and ask father McGivney to bless them in their joys and sorrows, their illnesses and their life," Salas said.
Digital content producer Emily Salazar contributed to this story.
