Anchors aweigh! Homecoming week at the Island University sets sail

The community also got to celebrate TAMU-CC with citywide Bluesday Tuesday.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With homecoming week in full-swing over at the Island University, students, faculty and alumni were invited to a special homecoming tradition on campus called "Anchors Aweigh".

The tradition invites everyone on campus to help paint the anchor in front of the University Center white.

It all started back in 1947 when the university's mascot was a tarpon!

The day also marked Citywide Bluesday Tuesday which invited all community members to wear blue and show their support for TAMU-CC.

3NEWS caught up with some of the students who grabbed a paint brush and get involved.

"It's just really good to take in all the traditions that we have," said TAMU-CC student and member of Student Government Association Emily Delaune. "And I'm really just making sure I'm taking advantage of my time here as a student."

Student and member of the Student Volunteer Connection, Vaun Natalroman, shared what the school traditions mean to him.

"It just allows me to really connect with all my fellow students," Natalroman said. "It allows me to show off my pride and my spirit for the school. This is only my second year here at this university, but the time that I've spent here has meant so much to me and being able to express that to all my fellow students is something real personal to me."
