CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley belong to the fifth busiest sector in the state for migrant encounters.
Public Affairs officer Agent Christina Smallwood said agents have noticed that human smugglers are finding new ways to get their job done, like utilizing drones.
"Guideless groups, they use the drones to keep an eye on where agents are patrolling, and also areas of advantage for them. Areas that are open and what that does is they are able to guide with a cellphone and guide one group from one area to another all the way to a pick-up point," she said.
