CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Wednesday, dozens of volunteers will be gathering at the Sokol Hall to start preparing for the 81st annual Joe Salem Thanksgiving Dinner.
Volunteers are prepared to serve 500 people with a fresh Thanksgiving meal that includes a large turkey leg, all your favorite sides and a slice of pie.
Long-time volunteer, Elaine Medina spoke with First Edition on Wednesday morning ahead of the big day and said that preparation for an event of this scale starts months in advance.
Meals will be handed out through a curbside pickup system. The distribution starts at noon, but vehicles can start lining up at 11 a.m. The event will finish at 2 p.m. or when supplies run out.
Organizers of the event ask that you stay in your vehicle at all times, refrain from using your phone in the distribution line and open your trunk or window before entering the line.
