CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Friday Julian Lopez was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in a Texas prison for a fatal shooting that claimed the life of one man in August 2022.
Lopez and his legal team entered an agreed plea bargain in Judge Susan Barclay's 117th District Court.
Lopez also had to plea "true" to an incident from 2015 for a charge of injury to a child.
That shooting happening around 8:30 in the morning at a Stripes gas station off of Ayers and Bevecrest Street just past Holly Road.
When police arrived they found a man had been shot. He was rushed to a hospital where he died later that morning.
3NEWS spoke with Lopez's attorney Geordie Schimmel after the sentencing.
"He's just been deeply remorseful since this entire thing started, he's been trying to plea guilty since it all started and he's done nothing but express remorse for what's happened," Schimmel said. "In fact, he told me on numerous occasions he'd wish he could trade places with the victim once released because of what he'd done, he felt terrible about it."
