CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Kingsville Police Department received a grant from the Texas Association of Counties to purchase new life-saving equipment.
One special piece of equipment that the department was able to obtain was a modern defibrillator.
Patrol officers will now be able to use the battery operated self-run device which will give an appropriate shock level in the event of a sudden medical emergency.
"You know, sometimes the ambulance may say, you know, we're 15 - 20 minutes out from a rural area where they are. And so it's important for our guys to be able to, you know, establish if there are a first aid they can render right there in the field out in these remote areas. Then I think this is a great opportunity to do that," said Kleberg County Sheriff Richard Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick adds that this is all part of the effort to save lives in more than just one way.
